Cozy, cozy, cozy

Here it is--the newest addition to our quilt collection! My mom made this quilt for my son (who is moving from a crib to a "big boy" bed this week). I love the fabric and the colours she chose. Bright solids, stars and dots, and a really fun dragon print on a sky-blue background. The pattern is a variation of Nine-Patch with two wide borders in solid blue and red, and a narrow binding. And you see the back of the quilt, turned up on the lower left corner? It's pieced as well. Usually the top of the quilt is pieced and the back is a single piece of fabric. If it's a large quilt, sometimes the backing is made of two or three panels of the same fabric, sewn together to make one large piece. Mom cut long and narrow pieces of the same fabrics she used on the top, and pieced them together to make a modern patchwork on the back. The effect is beautiful and it means the quilt is reversible, too.

This wee man loves his new blankie, too. We spent lots of time over the holidays snuggling under it. Nothing is cuter than a little boy tucked under a quilt. Even better is when he keeps saying, "Look at the blanket, Mama! Cozy, cozy, cozy!"

Thank you, Grandma!
